The Reiki Principles Mikao Usui

“Reiki” is a Japanese energetic healing modality. It is pronounced ‘ray-key’ and means is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’. I practice the Usui System of Natural Healing that was founded in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, after his own personal healing journey and study that led him to Reiki.

Reiki is traditionally passed on from Master to Student through teaching, practice and attunement.

When receiving a reiki treatment, the healer will intuitively understand where the energetic blockages are in your chakras and meridians as well as in your aura. Reiki will work to help clear those blockages so that your energy can flow naturally.

Reiki should not be used in place of conventional medical care. Always consult a GP or other health professional for medical attention and advice.

Your Reiki Treatment

Reiki is very easily accessible to everyone.  It is usually given in a peaceful treatment room but it can also can take place anywhere, and even over distant miles.

Before the Session

Please avoid alcohol. Remain hydrated.

During the Session

Your first reiki session will last for 1 hour and 15 minutes. The first part of the session is for a consultation.  You will be asked to complete a Health Questionnaire and sign a Consent Form. During the session, you remain fully clothed although you will be asked to remove your shoes before you lie on the therapy couch. If you prefer, or if you have a health condition, which makes it difficult for you to lie on your back, you can remain seated.

Pillows and blankets will be provided for your comfort and warmth and the lights will be dimmed slightly for ambience.  Soft music will be played in the background and I usually complete the session in silence. Reiki is then given where I am guided on locations on the head, front and back of the torso and feet.  There is no touching as my hands will be just above the body and there will be no intrusive or inappropriate placements.

I may also be guided to work on specific limbs or in areas where you have specifically indicated that there is an issue, which I am happy to do, however, my treatments will also deal with the whole body, holistically. This is because reiki will flow where reiki is needed.

I do not usually verbally communicate during the session and this is to allow you the time to absorb the benefits of the experience and to relax and for me to focus on channelling the reiki.

At the end of the session, I will gently let you know that we have finished by a gentle tap on the shoulder. You will be give time to come of the therapy couch and I will then provide you with feedback.

After the Session

As with many other forms of alternative healing, you may either immediately, or in the days following the treatment, experience feelings such as increased emotions, whether happy, sad, tearful, angry etc. You may also feel the need to urinate more than normal; you may feel tired or energetic. Some clients experience headaches. Others feel hungry.

Everyone’s experience is different and not everyone experiences these feelings.  This will all pass as it the body’s way of clearing and healing. Once things settle, you will feel much better.

Drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours. Try to relax.

Further Treatments

Some clients are happy with just one treatment; others prefer to have a series of treatments to work on particular issues. Follow up treatments are one hour, which includes follow up and feedback.

Reiki should not be used in place of conventional medical care. Always consult a GP or other health professional for medical attention and advice.

Benefits of Reiki

Reiki energy can be felt at all levels whether physical, mental, spiritual or emotional. It is a gentle non-invasive treatment and is open to any belief system.

Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, or any other method of alternative care.

  • Increased energy levels
  • Release from stress
  • Release of block or suppressed feelings or negative energy
  • Enhancing positivity
  • Promoting pain relief
  • Enhance personal awareness and self-development
  • Balancing the energetic body and chakras
  • Distance Reiki

What is Distance Reiki and how can it help you?

Reiki can be given by distance, which means that you do not have to be in the room or even the country. It is just as effective and as beneficial as an in person treatment.

    How does it work?

It works in the same way as if you were in my treatment room.  I will connect to your energy and send reiki to you. We will agree a date and time in advance and all you need to do is be ready to receive the reiki.  I generally ask clients to lie down and play some calm music during the session or to do whatever they need to do to relax.

I will always call you before the session to explain how it works and you can ask me any questions that you may have or let me know of any particular physical or health issues that you would like work on.

As with face-to-face reiki, some clients will feel sensations or emotions during a distance session and some will not feel anything. Above all however, you should feel calm and peaceful.  I will give you feedback after the distance session.

    Cancellation Policy

I will endeavour to try to re-book your appointment if you are unable to attend but please give me at least 48 hours notice.  Unless there are exceptional circumstances, I may charge a cancellation fee if less than 48 hours notice is given, unless of course, I am able to fill your appointment.

Please note that if you arrive late for an appointment, I may have to reduce your session time to prevent it impacting other clients.
